Magical realism was born in Latinoamérica, stems from colonial ghostscapes, blooms in horror, and challenges notions of fantasy themes as simple metaphors for deeper messages.
Applying close reading techniques to the short story "Light is Like Water" this class will examine how intertwined magical realism, darkness, and place are in Gabriel García Márquez’s piece.
Class concludes with two generative exercises: accepting the weird through prose & interweaving magic and place.
